Ties For First In First Ever New Jersey State Girls Championship! ICA Fair Lawn Plays Host To Event!
Our location in Fair Lawn played host to the first annual New Jersey State Girls Championship this past Sunday. Contested in two section for players under 1400, and an open section for all those rated higher this was the inaugural event of what we hope to make an annual competition.
Kimberly Ding was the co-winner with three points total though the story of the event was the underdog performance of Nastasia Klevak who tied Kimberly with three points and finished in tie-break second. Nastasia was the lowest rated player in the section with the next highest player rated almost 300 points above her. Nastasia also lost her first round game but despite the challenges went on to win the next three playing against players rated four to five hundred points higher than her. Nastasia earned two hundred rating points with the phenomenal performance.
Eight girls competed in the Open section.
Of the fifteen players in the section Lindsey Alvarez was the only one to win all four games and take first place. The best results for ICA players were Jessica Lee’s, and Sophie Rasol’s three out of four points each and respective third, and fourth place finishes. Lily Del Pilar, Suran Gao, and Elizabeth Tatishev also represented the ICA finishing with two out of four points, while Jennifer Xue, a fairly new ICAer finished at the bottom of the standings chart in one of her first tournament outings.
