THE 106th U.S. OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

(CROSSVILLE, TN)will be held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa between August 6-14, 2005. We expect 400+ chess competitors to compete in the main event as well as enjoy being at this world famous resort located on 39 acres and which also offers refreshing lush gardens, cool pools, relaxing sauna, beautiful golf course, tennis and much more. Other events taking place at the Biltmore will be our Scholastic event; the GM Arnold Denker High School Tournament of Champions; the GM Susan Polgar Invitational Tournament for Girls as well as other daily side-events which includes a Blitz Championship! The University of Texas at Dallas will a four-year, full tuition and fees scholarship (value approx. $30,000) to the highest finishing player who has not graduated from high school by August top 11th grade and below finisher of each of the Denker and Polgar tournaments. The prize/scholarship fund for the GM Polgar Invitational for Girls is $1,250.00. The U.S. Chess Trust will award $1200 ($500-300-200-200) in scholarships to the top four places at the Denker.

The guaranteed prize fund for the main event is $40,000.00. If you cannot commit to the 9 day event a 6-day and 5-day option are available. You have until 5pm August 6, 2005 to enter the Traditional schedule. You have until Aug. 9, 10 am to enter the 6-day and until Aug. 10, 4pm to enter the 5-day. Entries for all events close two hours before the start of Round 1.

USCF Committee workshops will take place Aug. 10-12 and the annual Delegates meeting will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14. The Awards Luncheon will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 which includes World Chess Hall of Fame inductions. A FIDE Trainers Seminar will be held Aug. 9 and Aug. 10 by Michael Khodarkovsky. A Chess lecture and simultaneous chess exhibition by WGM Anjelina Belakovskaia will take place Friday, August 12th.

Each participant in the main event will receive a complimentary copy of ⌠Test, Evaluate and Improve Your Chess■ by IM Danny Kopec, Ph.D. and NM Hal Terrie. NM Terrie will hold an autograph session Wednesday, August 10 from 1-4pm in the Frank Lloyd Wright Ballroom. If you need to purchase chess products, Rochester Chess Center will open a chess store on site for the duration of the event!
