February 20th, 2021 Quads Report
After a week break, we welcomed back players to Saturday Super Quads on February 20th! Once again, we would like to thank all participants for joining us! Special welcome to all our new players: Yuxin, Brian, Jayden, Ariella, Noah, Enzo, and Neil! Here are the highlights of this week's tournament:
In Over 1000 Section 1, Jane stormed through the section, winning all three of her games! Using tactics to her advantage, Jane maneuvered her way into positions with forced checkmate and even winning material! With her strong performance, she now extended her win streak to 3! Well played!
In Over 1000 Section 2, we witnessed new player Brian and Michael tie for first place! When the two went head-to-head, Brian was up two pawns in an intense rock, king, and pawn endgame. But with excellent stalemate tactics, Michael forced a repetition for the draw, earning them the game of the week! You can see the game here: https://www.chess.com/live/game/7588263313
In Under 1000 Section 1, Sophia won all three of her games to secure the gold, taking down last week’s winner Geoffrey! In the last game, to secure her win, Sophia pulled off a nice tactic to win a knight in the endgame against Angie! Congratulations and hopefully a start to a nice win streak!
In Under 1000 Section 2, Ari completed a clean sweep of his section, winning all his games and earning him the top spot! Ari was able to overcome his opponents by slipping in some tricky moves that resulted in him winning material. Well done!
In Under 1000 Section 3, similarly to a previous section, this section saw a tie for first place between Chunyu and Leon! When the two winners clashed in a game, both players played exceptionally well, and ended up agreeing in a draw. Both went on to win their final games, earning them both the top spot!
In Under 1000 Section 4, Christian won second last week, but wanted more, so he took home the gold today with 2.5 points! In the end, the draw with Rachel secured him the win over Kirill, who only trailed behind by 0.5 points. Great job Christian!
In Under 1000 Section 5, first place was shared by Everest and Ginelle, each with an astounding 2.5 points! Yet again, when the point leaders went against each other, the game ended in a draw when Everest managed to clear the board of all pieces except for two kings and a knight! Congrats to both winners!
In Under 1000 Section 6, although James lost to previous winner George in the final round, James ended up on top with 2 points, winning his section! His strong attacks in his earlier games laid the foundation for his win! Well done!
In Under 1000 Section 7, Hyland was not afraid at all to go on the offensive in all of his games. His fierce attacks put his opponent’s king in danger in each of his games, leading him to win all three rounds, securing him the gold for this week! Nicely done!
In Under 1000 Section 8, Andrew and Hovannes faced off yet again, reaching the same result in their game as last time: a draw. But it was this draw, combined with two other wins, that put Andrew in first place this week, topping David by just 0.5 points! Congrats Andrew!
In Under 1000 Section 9, Yuxin makes himself known as a formidable opponent in his first tournament with us by dominating all of his games! With three straight wins, new player Yuxin takes home the gold! Great job!
In Under 1000 Section 10, although new player Enzo was so close to winning his first tournament here, he came up short to Austin, who breezed straight through, winning all his games, earning himself the first-place crown! Well played!
